IERC envisions making strategic contributions to BRAC programs and international development agenda by influencing the policy actors for large-scale positive changes. IERC aims to generate knowledge on the relevance, impact, and sustainability of BRAC’s interventions under BRAC International, in particular, and effective social development models, in general.
IERC conducts impact evaluation, operation evaluation, nationally representative large-scale surveys, and process documentation on multi-sectoral topics in diverse contexts across Africa and Asia. The large administrative presence and diversified sectoral platform of BRAC in respective countries provide the IERC with a unique comparative advantage to “test and learn” before rolling out an intervention at scale. The IERC’s multi-disciplinary team, combined with its multi-sectoral cross-country experience, allows IERC to design and implement rigorous studies for evaluating a wide range of interventions across diverse contexts.
IERC collaborates with renowned universities, research institutes, development organisations, and governments to design, test, and disseminate research findings. IERC Central Team headquartered in Uganda coordinates IERC Country Research Teams currently operating in five countries—Uganda, Tanzania, Liberia, Sierra Leone, and Afghanistan.
The quality data with relevant purpose is at the core of research management at IERC while the quality research in search of referable knowledge is the top priority of its knowledge management. Research management at IERC is governed by a number of administrative and technical protocols. Some of those standard practices include IERC Research Review Committee (RRC), grant management standard operating procedures (SOPs), mobile data collection, training protocols, and data quality protocols. These generic practices and protocols are often customised to the specific needs of a particular project or survey.
