Shaila Ahmed, PhD, is an Assistant Professor, Research Fellow, and Head of the Gender and Social Development cluster at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University.
Prior to receiving her doctoral degree, Dr Ahmed served in the BRAC Ultra Poor Program as Regional Manager. She also assisted in the replication of the BRAC Ultra-Poor Graduation program concept in Haiti while working there as a technical consultant for a World Bank-funded program. In her last appointment, she served as a Department Head of Social Compliance and Public Relations in Aarong. While pursuing her doctorate, she worked as an adjunct faculty member of Economics at a US college. Her primary research interests are in labour economics, health economics, and topics related to applied microeconomics, with a specific focus on cash transfer programs, health, and education.
Dr Ahmed earned her PhD in Economics from Northern Illinois University, USA, where she was awarded the Best Dissertation Award from the Economics department for the year 2022. She completed her Master of Public Health from the same institution.
