Professor Dr. Selim Jahan is a Professorial Fellow at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development.
Dr. Jahan is the former Director of UNDP’s Human Development Report Office in New York. Over his three-decade career with UNDP, he led major global initiatives on poverty, inequality, inclusive growth, and the Millennium Development Goals. He served in key roles, including Deputy Director and Policy Advisor at HDRO, where he contributed to nine global Human Development Reports and several National HDRs, including Bangladesh’s first in 1991.
Before UNDP, Dr. Jahan was a Professor of Economics at the University of Dhaka and held academic positions at McGill University, Cambridge University, and the University of Maryland. He also advised national and international organizations, including USAID, the Government of Bangladesh, the ILO, UNESCO, and the World Bank.
Dr. Jahan holds a PhD in Economics from McGill University, where he was a Commonwealth Scholar.
