Maliha Noshin Khan is a Senior Research Associate at BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University.
Maliha began her research career as an intern at BIGD and later worked as a Research Associate in the Economics cluster, before taking a study leave to pursue further education. She holds a Master’s in Economics from Arizona State University, where she also worked as a Graduate Teaching Assistant. She completed her Master’s and Bachelor’s in Development Studies from the University of Dhaka.
Noriya Mahin Chowdhury is a Research Associate at BRAC Institute of Governance and Development, BRAC University.
As part of her MSc field placement, Noriya served as a Guest Lecturer in the Department of Development Studies at the University of Makeni in Sierra Leone, where she taught undergraduate courses on Natural Resource Management and Development Theories and Perspectives. She holds an MSc in Environmental Change and International Development from the University of Sheffield, UK, and a BBA in Finance from the University of Dhaka.
Professor Dr. Selim Jahan is a Professorial Fellow at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development.
Dr. Jahan is the former Director of UNDP’s Human Development Report Office in New York. Over his three-decade career with UNDP, he led major global initiatives on poverty, inequality, inclusive growth, and the Millennium Development Goals. He served in key roles, including Deputy Director and Policy Advisor at HDRO, where he contributed to nine global Human Development Reports and several National HDRs, including Bangladesh’s first in
1991.
Before UNDP, Dr. Jahan was a Professor of Economics at the University of Dhaka and held academic positions at McGill University, Cambridge University, and the University of Maryland. He also advised national and international organizations, including USAID, the Government of Bangladesh, the ILO, UNESCO, and the World Bank.
Dr. Jahan holds a PhD in Economics from McGill University, where he was a Commonwealth Scholar.
Azmina Afrin has joined BIGD as an Admin Officer. Azmina Afrin started her career at Grameenphone Ltd in 2017. Her last appointment was as Human Resources and Procurement Officer at Democracy International Bangladesh. During her career, she has worked in various capacities in DanChurch Aid and Danish Refugee Council for the Rohingya Community.
She has completed her BBA and MBA from Shahjalal University of Science & Technology, Sylhet. She obtained a postgraduate diploma on Human Resource Management from Academy of Business Professionals.
Shamsun Nahar has joined the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development as an Accounts Officer.
Shamsun Nahar has completed the CA Certificate Level and a three-year Chartered Accountancy course with M.J. Abedin & Company. She previously worked with Incepta Pharmaceuticals Limited, Power Grid Bangladesh PLC, and Bombay Sweets & Company Ltd, as an auditor.
Umma Kulsum Kusum is a Programme Associate under the Gender and Social Development cluster at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University.
Kusum started her career in the government’s primary education sector in 2012. Before joining BIGD, she worked as an experimental school teacher at The Primary Teachers Training Institute (PTI) under the Directorate of Primary Education, Ministry of Primary and Mass Education. Kusum completed her M.Sc. and B.Sc. in Zoology from the National University of Bangladesh. She is pursuing her MBA at Bangladesh University of Professionals (BUP).
Jibon Chandra Mali has joined the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) as a Lab Assistant.
Jibon began his IT career at the Sufia Cotton Mills Limited, where he gained significant experience in networking, ERP management, and IT operations.
He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and Engineering from Daffodil International University.
A M M Fazlur Rashid is a Visiting Fellow of Practice at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University. His research interests lie at the intersection of SME development, sustainable practices, and innovative solutions for climate adaptation.
Trained in marketing, Fazlur Rashid specializes in small and medium enterprise (SME) growth with a focus on profitability and sustainability. With over 21 years of professional experience in distribution, sales, and marketing across the electric, electronics, paints, and telecom industries in Bangladesh, he brings a wealth of practical expertise to his work in promoting sustainable technologies through social business models.
Passionate about empowering small and medium entrepreneurs, Fazlur Rashid also explores innovative climate-smart solutions in energy, agriculture, and waste management. In addition to his professional achievements, he is the translator of Sun Tzu’s Art of War (Bengali, 2017) and Art of War in Everyday English (2019), both available on Amazon in print and Kindle.
Rupok Chowdhury has joined the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) as a Data Associate.
Rupok began his research career at the ARCED Foundation in 2022. Additionally, he has published research in peer-reviewed journals, focusing on topics such as public health and economic growth.
Rupok holds an M.Sc. in Applied Economics with a major in Econometrics from BRAC University, and a Bachelor in Economics from Khulna University.
