Trainee Research Associate

Farjana Akther is a Trainee Research Associate at the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University, under the Young Research Fellowship (YRF) Program 2026.

Previously, she worked on education resilience, social cohesion, youth engagement, and women empowerment through initiatives supported by UN Women, the Centre for Peace and Justice, and the British Council, drawing on mixed-methods research, stakeholder engagement, and field coordination to generate evidence for policy and development practice. Most recently, she contributed to governance, democratic participation, and policy research through the UNDP-supported Ballot Project, implemented by SHUJAN–Citizens for Good Governance. In recognition of her contributions to peace, inclusivity, and women’s leadership, she received the Women Peace Ambassador Award in 2022. As an ICCCAD Youth Fellow (2025), she engaged with climate-vulnerable communities and deepened her understanding of climate governance and adaptation in Bangladesh.

She completed her Master of Social Sciences in Sociology from the University of Dhaka.
