Professor ASM Maksud Kamal is the Pro-Vice Chancellor (Academic) and founding chairman of the Department of Disaster Science and Climate Resilience at the University of Dhaka. His extensive background includes serving as an urban risk reduction specialist and an expert in earthquake and tsunami preparedness at the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the Comprehensive Disaster Management Programme (CDMP), initiated by the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief. Professor Kamal is a member of the National Committee for Earthquake Awareness and Preparedness Expert Group and the SAARC Disaster Management Council. He has also worked as a scientific officer in the Bangladesh Space Research and Remote Sensing Organization (SPARRSO). Professor Kamal serves as the President of the Bangladesh Society of Geo-Informatics and holds the position of General Secretary at the Geological Society of Bangladesh. Professor Kamal holds a Ph.D. in engineering geology from the Tokyo Institute of Technology.
