This multilevel mixed-effect model estimated the influence of social recognition on Community Health Promoter’s (CHPs) performance by following 4,050 CHPs serving 134 BRAC branch offices in Uganda from 2016 to 2018. The findings show how the presence of an award-winning CHP among the nearest three neighbouring branches was associated with a 27 percentage points (pp) decrease in the average performance score of a non-winner branch the top 50th percentile group showed underperformance by 20 pp while the bottom half and bottom 20th percentile groups showed outperformance by 13 pp and 17 pp, respectively.
