The PROGRESS project, implemented by BRAC’s Skills Development Programme in collaboration with the European Union, has significantly improved the working environment of light engineering (LE) firms in Bangladesh. The intervention demonstrated positive effects on safety measures, access to loans, and bookkeeping practices among LE firm owners. While the program increased revenues and profits in the short and long run, the effects were not statistically significant. Additionally, the youth training component of the project successfully enhanced employment and income for disadvantaged youth, with notable positive impacts on savings and mobile banking. Overall, the PROGRESS project achieved success in fostering a safer workplace and providing employment opportunities, particularly for the youth.
