Dr Imran Matin, Executive Director, BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University, recently spoke at a panel discussion hosted by the Saida Waheed Gender Initiative at LUMS and Women in Economics and Policy (WiEP) on the impact of COVID-19 on women in informal work across South Asia, along with Ms Ume Laila Azhar, Executive Director, Homenet Pakistan; Dr Sona Mitra, Principal Economist at Initiative for What Works to Advance Women and Girls in the Economy (IWWAGE); Ms Prabha Pokhrel, Institutional Development Expert at Home-Based Women Concern Society Nepal; and Dr Ammar Malik, Senior Research Scientist, AidData. Covering India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and Nepal, the discussants spoke about policies and interventions focused on informal female labour force participation and the challenges due to and responses to the COVID-19 pandemic.
