As a premier social science and postgraduate academic institute in Bangladesh, BIGD is committed to working with the industry and using its expertise in research and education and its national and global network of practitioners and academics to fill this gap. BIGD’s Executive Development Centre (EDC) has been developing as a model to train highly competent mid-level managers for the knitwear industry.
With this objective and with support from the Government’s Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP), EDC developed the Post Graduate Diploma in Knitwear Industry Management (PGD-KIM) in 2016-17 and has been delivering the program since 2018. It targets mainly mid and lower-mid-level industry executives and aspiring fresh graduates. A total of 463 students have graduated from PGD-KIM and another 330 will be completed by Dec 2023. Through this program, BIGD contributes to creating a healthy pool of highly competent managers, reducing dependency on foreign managers, and establishing linkages between industry and university.
In 2021, The Executive Development Centre (EDC) at BIGD, BRAC University, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Skills Development Coordination and Monitoring Unit (SDCMU), SEIP, Ministry of Finance to implement the Post Graduate Diploma in Knitwear Industry Management (PGD-KIM).
The PGD-KIM program equips industry professionals and fresh graduates with generic and industry-specific skills needed to manage the knitwear industries of Bangladesh. It is an excellent opportunity for fresh graduates looking to enter the sector, and industry professionals to assume more challenging roles.
