We are happy to announce that the first-ever cohort of Trainee Research Associates (TRAs) at BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) have successfully graduated from the Young Researchers’ Fellowship (YRF) Program!
Young Researchers’ Fellowship (YRF) is a 4-month program that provides opportunities for experiential learning on research methodology and other crucial research skills to budding social scientists through training on applied research methods, hands-on experience of different components of social science research, and mentoring from senior researchers. The program was officially launched in 2021 with the aim of developing the next generation of Bangladeshi social scientists. Participants have the designation of Trainee Research Associate (TRA) during the fellowship period.
This year, we received 275+ applications and after multiple rounds of screening, selected 8 TRAs. During the program the TRAs learned about study design, instrument development, and quality assurance and monitoring of all aspects of fieldwork. They also had hands-on experience in writing reports from analysis and other research-related management skills. In the closing ceremony, people who were closely related to designing and executing this program shared their perspectives and experiences. The TRAs also talked about their learning curve and how the program accommodated each of their needs. BIGD’s Executive Director, Imran Matin gave the closing remarks and congratulated the TRAs. He opined the program was an effective endeavour and expressed hopes that the future journey will be more efficient.
