On 30 April 2020, “Basay Thaki” hosted by Nabanita Chowdhury invited Executive Director of Brac Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), Dr Imran Matin, Senior Epidemiologist and Associate Professor at Cambridge University, Dr Rajiv Chowdhury, Professor of Economics at SOAS University of London, Dr Mushtaq Khan, and Architect at Community Architects Network, Khondaker Hasibul Kabir to discuss ‘When should we reopen the country? And how will we know when to do so? ‘
Dr Imran Matin shared that amidst the pandemic we need less clinical and medical approach and focus should be more on public health approach for the treatment. He mentioned the strategies that we need to implement for avoiding unnecessary death is very crucial. The constraint that is currently being faced by the public, health care frontliners, government agencies and law enforcement officers needs to be identified and an holistic approach is needed to achieve the solution; as all of these are interlinked. National consensus about health strategy is essential while taking into consideration the socio-political and economical aspect of the nation.
