Position Summary

The Sr. Programme Associate (SPA) will contribute to idea generation and implementation of policy analysis. They will work under the supervision of the Senior Program Coordinator to manage and coordinate policy research-related activities and grants, engage with relevant partners, write policy briefs and support existing research projects with relevant policy analysis. This is an exciting position that demands strong research skills, a deep understanding of policy needs, and a commitment to fostering partnerships and advancing institutional goals.

About BIGD

BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), Brac University, is a Bangladesh-based social science research and academic institute, dedicated to generating and sharing knowledge through education, research, and public and policy engagement in equitable partnerships with national and global actors.

We conduct rigorous, multi-method social science research, grounded in developing country operations, on a range of social and economic issues to promote practical, time-sensitive innovations for tackling governance and development challenges. Our research spans innovations taking place in government, non-profit, and private sectors for improving lives.

We lead the research on the socioeconomic empowerment programs of BRAC—the global leader among NGOs focusing on poor and marginal people—including their ultra-poor graduation, integrated development, skills development, migration, microfinance, gender justice and diversity, community empowerment, climate change, humanitarian, and urban development programs.

Key Responsibilities

  • Program Management (50%)
    • Assist in planning, implementation, and tracking of policy-relevant research projects
    • Coordinate meetings, workshops, and conferences
    • Manage budgets and assist with financial reporting
    • Collaborate with team members on proposal development and grant applications
    • Foster collaborations with other research institutions and stakeholders (local and national)
    • Ensure compliance with the university and funding agency policies and regulations.
  • Research Activities (30%)
    • Support the funded research teams in synthesizing and effectively communicating policy lessons from the funded research projects
    • Take the lead in encouraging the proper documentation of the initiative’s activities, documents, and processes, including following up with team members to continuously update and sync all files and folders
    • Coordinate proper implementation of research projects and maintain fidelity
    • Identify key deliverables of the projects and grants and work towards meeting them on time
  • Engagement with Partners and Stakeholders (20%)
    • Engage with partners and stakeholders to support collaborative projects
    • Map partnerships and develop a strategy for engagement
    • Support learning and development opportunities for BIGD researchers
    • Communicate with external partners regarding new research projects and grant opportunities

Skills and Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Development Studies, Public Policy, Management, or a related discipline
  • At least 3 years of experience in policy research and/or training in public policy
  • Strong Bangla and English communication skills
  • Detail oriented project management

Job Nature, Reporting, and Base

This is a full-time, contractual position. The position will report to the Senior Program Coordinator, BIGD, and will be based in Dhaka, Bangladesh.
