Position Summary:
BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) at BRAC University in Dhaka, Bangladesh, seeks someone to head the Academic programme cluster at BIGD. We are looking for someone with a good experience working in academia with a particular focus on development of new programs, updating curriculum, adult learning and pedagogy, outcome-based education and handling the regulatory bodies such as, University Grants Commission of Bangladesh. 

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Curriculum, pedagogy and quality of the academic programs:
    Develop and update the OBE curriculum of the academic programs following the UGC’s and the university’s procedures and ensure the full implementation of the OBE curriculums. Ensure quality and integrity in the delivery of academic programs. Explore the latest adult learning pedagogy and facilitate the application of the appropriate pedagogy by consultation with faculty members and other relevant stakeholders.
  2. Strategic:
    Formulate strategies of the Academic Cluster and assess the feasibility to transform the exising programs into a broad school of public policy with suitable sub-streams on governance and development. Provide strategic inputs and counsel to the BIGD Senior Management.
  3. Teaching:
    Teach a reasonable number of courses at the Masters level degrees offered by BIGD.
  4. Laison and communication:
    Liaise with the the UGC and the BRAC University and ensure the compliance of academic regualations and procedures properly. Communicate with existing and former students, facilitate alumni activities, and reach out to prospective students and institutional sources. Effectively promote the academic programs through reaching out to the wider community through appropriate means including social media.
  5. Managerial:
    Supervise and manage the relevant staff of the Academic Cluster. Maintain relevant documentation, records and routine paperwork.

Qualifications and required skill set:

  1. PhD in Economics or relevant social science fields from a globally renowned University. Exceptional candidates with a Master’s degree and strong academic programme management experience are also encouraged to apply.
  2. Experience of academic engagement and a sound understanding of academia: a combination of academic and management experience is preferred.
  3. Experience in academic program management and handling regulatory issues.
  4. Demonstrated capability to work under stress and creative thinking in the development of academic programs and interventions.
  5. Exceptional communication skills, including speaking and writing effectively in English, both academic and popular.
