Position Summary:

BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), based at BRAC University, seeks a Consultant Editor (Bangla) for its Communications and Knowledge Management team. The Editor, under the supervision of the Head of Communications and Knowledge Management, will assist in the thorough editing of three specific reports under BIGD’s Changing Village Study project.

BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), Brac University, is a Bangladesh-based social science research and academic institute, dedicated to generating and sharing knowledge through education, research, and public and policy engagement in equitable partnerships with national and global actors.

By influencing policy and practice through rigorous research and quality academic programs, BIGD aims to promote innovation in governance and development processes toward a more just and prosperous society. We conduct rigorous, multi-method social science research, grounded in developing country operations, on a range of social and economic issues to promote practical, time-sensitive innovations for tackling governance and development challenges. Our research spans innovations taking place in government, non-profit, and private sectors for improving lives. 

Partnering with academics around the world, BIGD conducts multi-method research on governance and development issues in close collaboration with several crucial departments of the Government of Bangladesh, large non-profits such as BRAC, and international organizations such as the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. BIGD oversees BRAC International’s Independent Research and Evaluation Cell (IERC), which works in ten countries across Asia and Africa. BIGD also hosts the Country Office of the International Growth Centre (IGC), London School of Economics (LSE); and the ED of BIGD heads the IGC Country Office. 

Responsibilities:

  • Language editing of three reports, each approximately 20,000 words, about 60,000 words in total
  • Editing for proper use of words, language construction, grammar, and punctuation 
  • Final proofreading 

Qualifications:

Required: 

    • Master’s degree in Bangla, Public Policy, Economics, or a related discipline 
    • Strong Bangla writing and editing skills 
    • Excellent attention to detail 
    • Strong proofreading skills 

Preferred: 

    • Familiarity with qualitative, social science research 
    • Ability to understand academic research and synthesize findings into a clear and accurate narrative for a general reader
    • Willingness to work with individuals located in different time zones
