Research Dialogue | BIGD Day

On June 26, we commemorated BIGD Day, marking the institution’s 12th anniversary, with a research dialogue that showcased BIGD’s multidisciplinary work in the social sciences.

The event began with opening remarks by Dr. David Dowland, Registrar of BRAC University, and welcome remarks by Dr. Imran Matin, Executive Director of BIGD. The discussions centered around BIGD’s exploratory and formative research, with a particular focus on Bangladesh’s political transformation.

The first session explored the intersection of digitalization and development, discussing the challenges and possibilities through a social science lens. The second session delved into BIGD’s ethnographic research on the ‘changing village’, shedding light on the evolving realities of rural life in Bangladesh. In the third session, the focus shifted to the disruptions and reforms following the July Insurrection, a theme that will be further developed in our upcoming State of Governance Report. The final session addressed the broader question of how to tackle the ongoing challenges in the pursuit of knowledge for a better world.

It was a day of reflection, insights, and renewed purpose, reaffirming our commitment to impactful research and thoughtful dialogue, generating knowledge that informs inclusive and lasting change.
