On 29 December 2024, BIGD—in coordination with Naripokkho and Sangat— proudly hosted the launch of “Renegotiating Patriarchy: Gender, Agency, and the Bangladesh Paradox” by the renowned Professor Naila Kabeer of LSE. Her book gives a fresh perspective on how the everyday actions of Bangladeshi women are reshaping patriarchal norms and driving meaningful social transformation.
The event featured a vibrant panel discussion with esteemed speakers including Dr. Hossain Zillur Rahman (Chairperson, BRAC), Dr. Sohela Nazneen (IDS, University of Sussex), and Dr. Fahmida Khatun (Executive Director, CPD). Thought-provoking insights emerged on topics such as gender, agency, pluralism, and the need for a more inclusive growth model.
Professor Kabeer shared her perspective on how women’s lived experiences inspire them to rewrite oppressive narratives, paving the way for generational change. Dr. Imran Matin, BIGD Executive Director, remarked, “We need to quickly make sense of the shifting dynamics to set new agendas.”
This conversation reaffirms the importance of bridging academic research with grassroots action to create impactful change.
