A roundtable discussion titled “রাষ্ট্রের গণতান্ত্রিক রূপান্তর যেভাবে হতে পারে” (What the Democratic Transformation of the State Could Look Like) was held at the Prothom Alo office in Karwan Bazar, Dhaka. The event was jointly organized by the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD) and Prothom Alo, and supported by UK International Development from the UK government.
Speakers at the discussion reflected on the July mass uprising, which sparked a strong public aspiration and possibility for democratic transformation and structural reform of the state. However, they noted that over time, the momentum for such change has gradually declined. Despite this waning possibility, the discussion underscored the need to continue pushing forward. Participants emphasised that institutional reform remains a vital path toward realising democratic transformation and revitalising public trust in governance.
