The Post Graduate Diploma in Knitwear Industry Management (PGD-KIM) is designed to deliver key skills and knowledge to managers working in knitwear industries and fresh graduates from various public and private universities who are keen to explore a career in the knitwear sector.
PGD-KIM is a 9-month, fully-funded program that focuses on the latest business technologies and hands-on knitwear business applications for executives and aspiring professionals to master their abilities and successfully lead the knitwear industries in the ever-changing economy.
The program has been offered since the formation of the Executive Development Centre (EDC) in March 2018 by the BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), Brac University, with the support of Skills for Employment Investment Program (SEIP), Ministry of Finance.
Various reports have found that there are serious skill gaps at higher levels of employment in the RMG sector of Bangladesh, especially in the roles of supervisors, mid and high level managers, trainers and entrepreneurs. Moreover, there are approximately 200,000 foreigners currently working in Bangladesh at mid and higher level managerial positions – remitting annually US$ 5 billion.
In order to address skill gaps and produce a pool of high-quality local manager who can meet the existing and future labour market needs and can gradually break the glass ceiling for progressing further in their careers, the SEIP project has established the EDC at BIGD, Brac University for the knitwear subsector with the aim of creating a pool of world class managers who could meet the demands of knitwear industries for mid and high level executives, reducing dependence on foreign managers by facilitating industry-academia collaboration.
PGD-KIM students need to complete 30 credits to graduate. The program is divided into three semesters. Terms 1 and 2 intent to deliver competencies by covering multi-disciplinary aspects with a blend of theoretical analyses and industrial practices. Term 3 provides students with the opportunity for students to apply and integrate learning from generic and industry-specific courses by working at various functional units of the attached industry.
The program aims to develop the thought processes and analytical abilities of participants by broadening their horizons regarding management in emerging markets and adaptability in the face of global competition, familiarize participants with the latest concepts and techniques to avoid obsolescence, and provide opportunities for participants to broaden their network.

After the completion of program, graduates will be able to integrate and apply the key competencies required for each of the functional areas of knitwear industry in Bangladesh. BIGD assists graduates with career support in the form of job placement opportunities, subject to job availability, through BIGD’s network with SEIP, BKMEA and the knitwear and export garments sector.

PGD-KIM students need to complete 30 credits and maintain 80% attendance throughout the program in order to graduate.

Brac University follows a two-step admission process for prospective students.
Applicants are to sit for an admission test, consisting of a written exam and a viva. The written test will focus on the candidate’s writing aptitude, while the viva will assess the candidate’s interest in pursuing this program.
The PGD-KIM is a fully funded, non-residential program. Additionally, students are provided allowances for transport and refreshments.
