Sir Fazle Hasan Abed, KCMG, Chairperson, BRAC and Board of Trustees, BRAC University hosted a lunch for Mr. Jean Lebel, President, International Development Research Centre (IDRC), Canada and his team at BRAC Centre on March 2, 2016. Others present at the meeting were Ms Joanne Charette, Vice-President, Corporate Strategy and Communications, and Dr. Anindya Chatterjee, Regional Director, Asia, both from IDRC; and Dr. Sultan Hafeez Rahman, Executive Director, Ms. SimeenMahmud, Head (Ad interim), Gender Cluster & CGST; Dr. Shanawez Hossain, Research Fellow, from BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC university.

The President was keen to learn about the challenges Bangladesh on its ‘road’ to greater prosperity. Sir Abed singled out education and education quality as the greatest challenge facing Bangladesh. There was a broader discussion on the key challenges following these remarks, in which both President Lebel, Sir Abed and BIGD researchers present also participated. The discussion remained on a ‘broader plain’, given the high level nature of the visit. Sir Abed outlined BRAC’s future strategy and its activities. President Lebel thanked Sir Abed for hosting the lunch and said it was a privilege to meet a person of this stature in person and to be invited to a lunch by him. It was a highly successful event.
