S. M. Gubair Bin Arafat
S. M. Gubair Bin Arafat joined BIGD (former IGS) in September 2012, as a research associate and lecturer. As a researcher, he is mainly involved with the research teams for BIGD’s annual flagship reports of State of Governance (SoG) and State of Cities (SoC) and also in areas of Urbanisation, Environment and Climate Change. As an academic, he provides lecture in BIGD’s Masters programme on Governance and Development (MAGD) and also coordinate a short course on Environmental Management and Governance.
Prior to joining BIGD, during March 2007 to June 2008, he worked with PRISM Bangladesh (a reputed National NGO in Bangladesh) as a monitoring officer for the hazardous waste management of Dhaka City. Earlier in 2005 – 2006 he worked as a researcher for the study on ‘Air Quality Monitoring and Pollution’.Arafat obtained his Honours and Masters degrees in Geography and Environment from Jahangirnagar University in 2005 and 2007 respectively. He received another M.Sc. degree from the Institute of Hazards, Risk and Resilience, Department of Geography, Durham University, UK in 2011. His research interest is focused on Environmental Governance, Policy, Urban Environment, and Climate Change.
