Q. What is MCIPS Programme?

It is a UK based diploma programme on supply chain and procurement. In Bangladesh, BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD), BRAC University facilitates the programme as well as conductsexamination.

Q. What does ‘MCIPS’ stand for?    

MICPS is the abbreviation of Member of Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (MCIPS).

Q. What is the outcome of this Programme?

At the end of the programme CIPS, UK provides the MCIPS Certificate which is a globally recognized and valued one in the field of supply chain and procurement.

Q. Is the examination offered throughout a year?

Yes, the MCIPS examination is held 5 times in a year, in January, March, May, July and November.

Q. What are the advantages of being a member of CIPS?

After being the member of CIPS you shall get some advantages like access to online journals and different news portals on procurement and supply chain management. You can also get other related information about CIPS programme, for instance, CIPS examination schedule, articles, former questionnaires, etc. Most importantly, unless you are a member of CIPS, you won’t be allowed to sit for the examination. 

Q. What is the prospect of MCIPS degree?

 The prospect of MCIPS programme is high in Bangladesh. Since a good number of professionals work in the division of procurement,which is an inseparable part of any organization, it will be of significantvalue to have an academic background on procurement system. To meet this institutional preference the value of MCIPS degree is increasing day by day. It is relevant to articulate that after completing MCIPS degree from BIGD, most of the participants are now working as a Procurement Consultant or a Procurement Specialist at renowned institutions like the World Bank, ADB, UNDP, Save the Children, BRAC, SQUARE, Grameenphone, Robi, Banglalink, PRAN and different projects of the Government of Bangladesh.

Q. Does it offer any field visit in UK from MCIPS programme? 

MCIPS programme does not offer any field visit in UK.

Q. What is the relation between MCIPS and MPSM?

The Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply (CIPS) is a diploma and Masters in Procurement and Supply Management (MPSM) is a masters degree programmes of BIGD, BRAC Univesity. When a participant completes the diploma programme on CIPS(15 modules), s/he shall become a MCIPS holder. If a MCIPS holder from BIGD enrolls in a ‘top up masters of the MPSM programme, she/he can get a waiver of 42 credits (out of 48 credits).

Programme Essentials


Q. How many levels need to be completed to get MCIPS degree?

To get MCIPS degree a participant needs to completethree levels. These are -

·         Diploma in procurement and supply management (Level- 4)

·         Advanced diploma in procurement and supply management (Level- 5) and

·         Professional diploma in procurement and supply management (Level- 6)

BIGD does not offer CIPS Levels 1-3 as these are equivalent to the graduation degree.

Q. How many courses are offered at each level? 

Five(5) courses are offered at each level. 

Q. What is the class schedule and timing of MCIPS?

Class schedule of MCIPS is every Saturday from 10.00 AM to 5.00 PM (with a 1 hour lunch break).

Q. Where are the classes held?

The entire MCIPS classes take place at the premises of BRAC Institute of Governance and Development (BIGD),BRACUniversity,Mohakhali,Dhaka.

Q. Who are the faculty members of MCIPS programme?

The faculty members of the MCIPS programme are those who have completed MCIPS successfully with excellent result and relevant professional experience.

Q. How shall participants receive information about their classes and examination schedule?

Q. What level of education do I need to enroll in MCIPS Programme?

To join the MCIPS programme, you require graduation from any discipline and preferably 2 years of relevant work experience.

Application and Admission


Q. What are the stages of applying/enrolling in MCIPS programme?

To enroll in the MCIPS programme subsequent steps are to be followed:

STEP 1: You have to be a member of CIPS (Chartered Institute of Procurement and Supply).

STEP 2:  CIPS Membership form is available to BIGD, BRAC University, after filling the membership form has to submit the form to BIGD and  which are to be done by the participant, BIGD shall complete the rest of the process for getting her/his membership. 

STEP 3: Within 10 (ten) days you shall get a confirmation  from CIPS, UK with a CIPS membership number  that you shall use as a user ID and password to login in CIPS.

STEP 4: That membership number would allow you to enroll for attending class and examination of the MCIPS programme. 

Q. What steps do I take to be a member of MCIPS?

Initiating the procedure you have to submit -

1: A filled-up CIPS membership form.

2: A pay order of 97 (ninety seven) Pounds as  Membership charge is issued in the name of `The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply’.

Important to note, you can also complete the CIPS examination registration process or be a member of CIPS through online using your international credit card.

Examination and Registration


Q. How is the CIPS examination scored?

In the MCIPS programme its 100 marks for theoretical examination per module and you have to obtain a minimum of 50 out of 100 marks to pass.

Q. Is there any opportunity to review my result?

Yes, CIPS gives the participants an opportunity to review their results, if they have any confusion regarding the result. The participants need to pay 50 pounds (BDT 5000) to apply for the review application. If the review result is positive, this amount shall be reserved in his/her CIPS account and s/he shall be able to use this later for any other purpose.

Q. What is the evaluation process of CIPS examination?

Evaluation process of CIPS examination is conductedby an CIPS assessment team of CIPS, UK through assessing the answer scripts and result publishing.

Q.  If I fail in the examination, can I take it again?

Yes, you can, but you must wait until the next examination registration procedure window opens. If anyone failed s/he has to sit again in the examination for that specific module after depositing the examination registration fee.


Q. What are the steps to register for  CIPS examinations?

STEP 1: Before each session of CIPS examination registration, you shall be informed through email  or you can contact BIGD to know the period of examination registration or you can also log into  mycips account to know the time of examination have to register discretely for each modules.

STEP 2: You shall fill-up the examination registration form and submit to us with a pay order of examination registration fee (74 pounds)of that or those particular modules.

STEP 3: Within one week after the registration, you shall get the confirmation with your mycips account.

At  the time of registration, you shall be informed about the result publishing date.

Q. How can I find the confirmation of my examination booking?

MCIPS shall send you a confirmation that we have received your examination entry by text message.  If they cannot contact you by text message, they shall send you an e-mail. Ensure that CIPS can contact you to verify your details on you’re mycips account is correct.

Important to note, once we have processed your examination entry and booked your examinations, please remember that -

·         You shall receive an examination notification letter confirming your booking.

·         You must keep this letter in a safe place and take it with you to the examination as proof of entry together with a proof of usual identification.

·         You can also check the examinations you are booked for on your mycips account.   


Cost and Payment Procedure


Q. What is the total cost of MCIPS programme?

Approximately BDT 3,80,000 is needed to complete the full MCIPS programme. As pound rates fluctuate,this amount may vary. The following calculation has been done on the basis of present pound rate (£1 = BDT 100).

Q. What is the process of paying the tuition fee for this programme?

All kinds of the fees you have to submit to BIGD, BRAC University through a pay order.

·         For a membership fee and examination registration fee you have to write ` The Chartered Institute of Purchasing & Supply’ on Pay to.
